Participating in the regatta was one of Michael’s wishes come true. We met a family from one of the islands whose grandfather was an instigator of the regattas and built many of the boats. They befriended us, spent several days with us and got Michael on one of the boats. I became the dinghy girl, transporting crew to and from land. My days were spent in the dinghy, flying up and down the race course, throwing out the little anchor to stay put long enough to photograph the race and hauling it back in before getting in the way of the competing boats. We had a terrific time and by the end of the week we could even understand a bit of what the islanders were saying!
