The populated islands, of which there are only a few, have a style and character unlike any other place I have seen. Of the estimated 40,000 Kuna who live in the comarca, most inhabit just a handful of the islands.  These islands become wall to wall, well actually thatched roof bamboo hut to hut, leaving only enough space in between for one person to pass.
